100-Year-Old Twins Celebrate Their Birthday Together, And Their Reaction Is Priceless

Twins are known to have a deep connection that even the closest siblings will never have. The same could be said about a set of twins who recently turned 100-years-old.

Mary Belle Roach and Mae Belle Powell have separate lives now, but they were born together in Kentucky in 1916. They have witnessed many incredible things throughout their history.

They still are best friends and enjoy reminiscing about the most significant events in their lives, such as experiencing both World Wars, the War In Vietnam, the Depression Of the 1930s, and many other cultural and social milestones.

The twins have no problem recounting stories they’ve heard many times because it’s how they stay sharp even after so many years. They are remarkably active for their age. They exercise for 30 minutes every day. They even cook and clean for themselves. Their most prized possessions are their memories. And their birthday is an incredible opportunity to recollect about their fascinating past.

They describe their moment at Murray State College during the Great Depression. They shared that their tuition at the school was only $5 per semester, which was extremely lucky for the many students who had nothing due to the Depression.

The twins recall using their identical appearance to play pranks at school. They would switch places in certain classes to see who would spot the difference. After getting a degree, they were fortunate to be employed as teachers at the same school.

Their treasured memories prove that aging is nothing to be afraid of.

These two aren’t the only ones who have done it. In fact, on September 20, 2021, Guinness World Records certified two sisters as the world’s oldest living identical twins at 107, coinciding with Japan’s Respect for the Aged Day.

Umeno Sumiyama and Koume Kodama from Japan have been confirmed as the oldest female identical twins living today. The twins were born on November 5, 1913, on Shodo Island in Kagawa Prefecture, Japan, to a big family of 13. They are also the oldest identical twins ever at 107 years and 300 days as of September 1, 2021.

According to their family and friends, the twins are friendly and positive. And they rarely complain. Umeno appears to be more strong-willed, while Koume would seem to be more gentle.

The twins shared that their upbringing was similar to that of a Television drama. At the time, being a twin was enough of an excuse to be bullied. They said it was one of the most unpleasant experiences of their childhood.

The twins started living apart at an early age. Koume left the island after the twins finished primary school to help her uncle. Umeno married somebody from Shodo Island, while Koume married a man from outside the island.

And just like Mary Belle Roach and Mae Belle Powell, these twins lived through two world wars.

Umeno was compelled to abandon her home near the end of the Second World War as an air raid shelter was constructed in the mountain behind it. Then the war ended shortly afterwards.

Although the twins joked about breaking a record, their family said they didn’t really expect them to, and were genuinely shocked when they did

Umeno and Koume are now both in different care homes. The official certificates were presented to Umeno and Koume by care home staff, despite the fact that they currently live in separate locations.
