Boy battling cancer receives more than 1,000 cards for his birthday. Here’s How You can send one too.

Eight-year-old Andrew Miller, who is facing the challenge of an inoperable brain tumor, had a simple yet heartwarming birthday wish this December: to receive 1,000 cards for his 9th birthday. Little did he know that his wish would soon be granted in the most touching way possible.

The Miller family resides just outside Conesville, Ohio, and when they shared Andrew’s story with the public, an outpouring of love and support followed. Andrew’s father, Roman Miller, joyfully shared that Andrew has already received more than 1,000 cards from well-wishers. Some days, the influx of cards reached as high as 266.

Roman described the immense joy that this gesture has brought to Andrew’s life, saying that his son eagerly anticipates the arrival of each day, waiting for the mail to arrive. Andrew spends hours opening cards and taking in the heartfelt messages and well-wishes from strangers near and far.

The idea to ask for cards came from Roman himself, who saw it as a way to motivate Andrew and give him something to look forward to each day. Roman expressed his happiness, noting that the cards are making Andrew excited about the days ahead. He believes that the support and prayers from thousands of people are making a significant difference in Andrew’s life.

Andrew’s battle with cancer has been a long and challenging one. For over a year, he has been battling two types of cancer: adult B Cell Lymphoma in his stomach and a relentless brain tumor. Unfortunately, doctors have informed the family that there is no cure for the brain tumor, which can often return even more aggressively after treatment.

The family’s journey has been marked by surgeries, radiation treatments, and the ongoing struggle to manage Andrew’s health. The lymphoma was brought under control and went into remission, but the brain tumor remains a formidable adversary. In Roman’s words, “It’s all through the brain. There’s nothing they can do, so they sent him home to keep him comfortable.”

Andrew’s comfort and care are currently provided by Community Hospice of New Philadelphia. The hospice organization specializes in offering compassionate care and support to patients and their families, particularly during challenging times like this.

Erica Rozak, volunteer manager with Community Hospice, explained that they aim to create special experiences for patients and families when specific goals or wishes are shared. Andrew’s wish to receive 1,000 cards quickly gained momentum, with numerous individuals, both from the local community and beyond state lines, coming forward to send gifts and cards to uplift Andrew’s spirits.

Roman and his family have been deeply touched by the outpouring of support. Despite the immense challenges they face, Roman maintains a positive outlook, emphasizing the importance of choosing to focus on the good in life. He believes that maintaining faith and a positive perspective is crucial, not only for himself and his wife but especially for Andrew as they navigate this difficult journey together.
