Candy Recall Due To Metal Strands
Even though candy is not healthy, kids and adults alike love to have them from time to time. Yes, they are not healthy, but it never crossed our minds that they can be potentially dangerous too. But recent reports will make you want to check your candy stash.
Mars Wrigley Confectionery US, LLC has issued a voluntary recall for several of its products. According to the FDA, the recall is “due to the potential presence of a very thin metal strand embedded in the gummies or loose in the bag.”
According to the company, no illnesses or injuries have been reported.
Lifesavers Gummies, Starburst Gummies, and Skittles Gummies are among the candy products that have been recalled. Some of the products may be exempt from this, as with any other recall. Only gummy sweets with certain codes are subject to this recall.
That is why before you dig into your candy stash, you first check to see if you have any Starburst, Life Savers, or Skittles Gummies. Take a look at the back of the package for the manufacturing code. It’s usually printed on the other side of the barcode with a white background.
Look at the blue-underlined first three numbers of the production code. That is the code that you need to determine whether or not the pack of candies you have at home belongs to the recall.
Below is the list of recalled items:
STARBURST® Gummies Original Share Size 3.5oz, code first three digits 136, 139 or 140.
STARBURST® Gummies Original Peg Pack 5.8oz, code first three digits 136, 139 or 140.
STARBURST® Gummies Sours Share Size 3.5oz, code first three digits 134,135, 137-142.

LIFE SAVERS® Sour Gummies Peg Pack 7.0 oz, 180g, code first three digits 132-134, 139-140, 144-147, 149, 151, 152 or 201.
SKITTLES® Gummies Original Peg Pack 5.8 oz, 2.93oz, code first three digits 139 – 218.

SKITTLES® Gummies Wild Berry Stand Up Pouch 12oz, code first three digits 138 – 218.
SKITTLES® Sour Gummies Peg Pack 5.8 oz, code first three digits 204 – 218.
So if your gummy candies do not have a manufacturing code that contains the first three digits listed above, then your product is safe to eat and is not part of the recall.
Consumers can be sure that the company will work closely with stores to get recalled products off the shelves. If a customer thinks they bought a recalled item, the FDA tells them to get rid of it right away.
