Dentist Lawrence Rudolph Found Guilty Of Wife’s Murder
On August 1, 2022, the jury found a wealthy dentist guilty of both murder and mail fraud for the killing of his wife, which was alleged to have taken place at the end of an African safari. The decision for Lawrence “Larry” Rudolph was decided by a jury in a federal court in Denver after the defendant’s trial which ran for a total of three weeks.
Rudolph was charged with murder and mail fraud for allegedly cashing in $4.8 million in life insurance claims. However, given that he was a successful dentist with a lot of money, his lawyers maintained that he did not need the money at all. According to the prosecutor’s office what he did was a premeditated crime. Rudolph was taken into custody.
In 2016, this wealthy dentist and big game hunter was accused of killing his wife, Bianca Rudolph. The incident happened while the two of them were traveling in Africa. They had been on a hunting vacation for the previous two weeks.
Rudolph stated that his wife had accidentally shot herself when they were packing their guns on the final day of their trip. He claimed that he was in the restroom at the time and that he heard the shot fired.
Despite his claims of innocence over the years and his lengthy testimony a couple of weeks ago in his own defense, the jury found him guilty.
The prosecution argued that the evidence contradicted his testimony, pointing out that the bullet that hit her heart came from a distance of about 2 to 3.5 feet away.
There was another potential motive that likely swayed the jury.
The television show “48 Hours” covered this story, explaining that Larry had his wife’s body quickly cremated in Zambia. This quickly led a friend of Bianca’s to suspect that what happened to her was not an accident. So soon after Bianca’s death, the friend called the FBI.
According to an FBI complaint cited by 48 Hours, the friend also said that Lawrence was having an affair. He had also been verbally abusive to Bianca. The friend also told the FBI that the couple fought over money. While Rudolph insisted he and his wife had an open marriage, friends said he had been cheating on his wife and simply wanted to be free to be with his girlfriend.
Lori Milliron, who managed Rudolph’s dentistry business in the State of Pennsylvania, was also questioned for lying to a federal grand jury about the investigation as well as her relationship with Rudolph. Additionally, Milliron was found guilty of perjury on two counts, obstruction of justice, and as an accessory to a crime. Three further counts of perjury against Milliron resulted in a not-guilty verdict. As for the other two counts of perjury, she was found not guilty on both.
Talking to People, Milliron’s lawyer, John Dill, expressed their disappointment regarding the verdict. He said, “We are disappointed in the jury’s verdict, but that is our system. Lori Milliron is innocent of the charges and we will continue to fight to exonerate her.”
Rudolph and Milliron haven’t been given their sentencing yet.
The prosecution said that Rudolph killed his wife to take back control of his life after Bianca Rudolph wanted more say in the couple’s finances and wanted Milliron fired. However, Rudolph’s legal team negates this narrative.
