Disney Pixar’s New Movie Was A Flop And Here’s Why Tim Allen Is Laughing

The latest film produced by Disney Pixar was a major flop at the box office. Many believe that this may have majorly been because the entertainment company decided to replace Tim Allen as the voice of Buzz Lightyear.

Lightyear came in second place in North America behind “Jurassic World: Dominion,” which remained on top of the box office for the second week in a row and collected a total of $51.7 million over the course of the weekend. This figure was lower than what was anticipated for the film’s opening weekend.

The latest installment in Disney’s Toy Story franchise just had its debut in 4,255 theaters in the United States and 43 markets around the world. However, the film was met negatively in some countries with a mainly Muslim population.

The movie is banned from being shown in a number of countries, notably the United Arab Emirates and Malaysia, both of which have Muslim majorities in their populations. Some have even banned it from entering their territory because of a contentious lesbian kiss scene. It has been placed on a blacklist, and as a result, it is not permitted to be shown in cinemas in the country of Malaysia. Reports say that the nation will not broadcast a movie that endorses homosexuality or a homosexual lifestyle.

After many have protested and urged company executives to keep it in light of the company’s response to the Republican Don’t Say Gay Bill in Florida, Disney eventually caved in and allowed the lesbian kiss to remain in the movie. Initially, Disney executives wanted to remove this scene from the film.

The movie was not successful at all on its opening weekend of release…

Analysts are concerned that Disney’s decision to incorporate a gay kiss and to use Tim Allen’s voice instead of Buzz’s may have been detrimental to the box office performance of the film. People had expectations that the film would earn close to $70 million in its opening weekend, which would be on par with the earnings of previous Toy Story movies. However, that did not happen.

Lightyear will likely have to find other ways to compensate for its poor debut weekend. And many are interested to see whether Disney would continue to keep the lesbian kiss in the movie or cut it out in order to satisfy everyone. Disney’s efforts to please everyone while staying true to its core values met with failure here, but the experience could prove instructive.

However, this is not the first time that Disney received negative feedback for its LGBTQ+ inclusive content.

Back in 2019, the company had to cut a scene from its live-action “The Lion King” movie that included a “gay moment.” Disney has made a great effort in their inclusion of LGBTQ+ people, still, everyone knows that there is still a long way to go.

Huge companies like Disney set the standard for other entertainment businesses in the industry. With films like Lightyear, there is no doubt that we will see even more efforts toward an inclusive future. And this is not only for Disney but for all media organizations as well.

Tim Allen is satisfied despite the fact that he has not commented on the film’s box office performance or his dismissal from it.
