“The Voice” gave us so many awe-inspiring performances for the past years. We have witnessed moving performances that are surely hard to forget. Some have even gone viral online. Duets are very popular in The Voice.
And by far, the best that all of us have witnessed lately is the one done by two iconic names in the music industry. For example, just listening to Dolly Parton sing “Jolene” with her goddaughter Miley Cyrus alongside the acapella group, Pentatonix, will surely give you goosebumps.
But if you want to witness perhaps the best duet performance, then it was during the Battle round two years ago where two contestants on the same team battle against each other to earn a spot to stay in the competition.
This was the duet from Christian Cuevas and Jason Warrior from Team Alicia…
Christian Cuevas is from Orlando, Florida. He is used to performing publicly but when his father passed away of liver cancer, he stopped performing, except when it’s for the church. And instead of going to college, he chose to get a job to support his mom. He is now the man of the family so he has to find ways to support them.
Christian got a job at Guitar Center. Everything he earns is given to the family and he made sure his mom had everything she needed. Eventually, was able to save enough for him to go back to college. He knew that this is something that his dad would have wanted. And according to him, he credits music for helping him cope with his difficult situation.
Jason Warrior who is also from Team Alicia found his calling when he was just a young boy. He traveled with Walt Whitman and the Soul Children. This is a popular Chicago-based gospel group that helped mold his love for music. He was even given the chance to perform for Bill Clinton!
Aside from that, Warrior started a production company right from his dorm room. He also created a 20-episode web series called “The Truth.” This is about overcoming difficult issues in life as a young person. To keep his range open, Warrior tries to learn 10 songs a day from YouTube tutorials.
This may be a singing competition but both contestants gave it their all to have the chance to move forward. They are both great singers and are incredibly deserving to move forward. however, only one can. They had to battle it out singing Adele’s hit song, ‘Hello.’
RollingStone online even included this as one of ‘The Voice’: 5 Best Moments From the Battle Rounds. The site wrote:
“Singing an Adele song has become a bit of a cliché over the course of The Voice’s 11 seasons. But when you turn a tune like “Hello” into a two-dude duet with an R&B flair and otherworldly harmonies, all is forgiven. . . and all are victorious. Christian Cuevas and Jason Warrior are to blame for pain in coach Alicia Keys’ hands from banging on her red buzzer desk so hard during their performance “because I was so taken by both of you,” she said. But after a prolonged praise of Warrior’s performance, she chose Cuevas. Adam Levine was quick to steal Warrior.”
And everyone will agree that this is possibly the best duet in the history of The Voice!
