Firefighter Adopts Dog He Rescued From Brutal Fire And Now They Are Best Friends

Every dog deserves a second chance in life.

Last January, a dog named Lexi Ann was brought to Ruff Start. This is a dog rescue group located in Princeton, Minnesota. The dog was not in good condition. She was a survivor of a house fire and her owners left her at a vet to be euthanized because she was in a very bad condition.

According to Ruff Start, the fire was so devastating and it killed a number of the family’s pets. Along with the victims were two cats, a dog, and including Lexi Ann’s pups. She was the only survivor and was able to escape because of her plastic kennel. It melted around and onto her so she was able to break free.

The wounds were so horrible which might be the reason why her owners thought that she would not make it through. They are homeless after the incident and they would not be able to give Lexi the extensive care that she needs. So instead of letting her suffer, they decided to put her down even though it was a difficult decision for them to make. She had dozens of painful burns on her feet, sides, nipples, and even on her face. Some of the burns were even down to her muscle.

Luckily, one of the vet techs fell in love with this pooch because of her sweetness and the joy she brings even from all the pain that she suffers. The vet tech reached out to Ruff Start to help Lexi Ann. Despite what she has gone through, she wanted to live and managed to cling to life. She recovered slowly with the help of a foster family.

The good news is, Lexi Ann finally found a forever home!

It’s with a firefighter and his family. The firefighter who identifies as “Travis” learned about the dogs’ story on Instagram. He admitted that he instantly fell in love with her. There was one problem though – he lives in Indiana.

Ruff Start do not do out-of-state adoptions. But for Lexi Ann, they made an exception. Travis and his family brought their RV and drove down to Ruff Start to meet Lexi Ann and finally bring her home. According to Ruff Start, Travis even plans to bring Lexi Ann to a camp for burn victims in Indiana so she can help them with their own healing.

The American Human Society revealed that over 500,000 pets are affected by house fires every single year. The organization recommends that each family should include their pets in their emergency plan. It is important to practice on taking them with you in case of emergency situations, like a house fire. They also recommend putting a decal in the front window of your homes indicating the number of pets you have and the types of animals needed to be saved during these situations. This can help emergency responders cut down the time they spend searching your home.

It was a miracle that Lexi Ann survived, but somehow would be a blessing to those whom she can emotionally heal. Lexi Ann now has an Instagram account @lexi.gets.better, where her fans can follow what she has been up to after all this time.
