healthy dad dies of flu as grieving family reveal first deadly symptom
Quenten Thomas, a 27-year-old father of three from Marysville, Tennessee, tragically succumbed to the flu. Despite being in prime health, his condition swiftly worsened after he experienced significant breathing difficulties, a critical symptom of his illness.
Quenten’s ordeal began with sudden health deterioration, prompting multiple hospital admissions due to his breathing struggles. His father, Robert Thomas, recalled the severe pain Quenten endured while coughing and his difficulty in breathing, which ultimately led to seeking medical attention. Although Quenten had no pre-existing health issues, his condition rapidly declined.
Robert recounted how Quenten, noticing a drop in his oxygen levels, sought medical help, prioritizing oxygen. His initial hospital visit concluded with recommendations for rest, nutrition, and hydration. However, a subsequent emergency room visit warranted immediate medical attention due to his critically low oxygen levels.
Despite receiving medical care, the situation took a dire turn. Quenten was placed on a ventilator and entered a coma, as explained by his grieving father. Tragically, he passed away on January 6, leaving behind an eight-year-old daughter, an 11-month-old son, and a one-month-old daughter. Robert mourned his son, praising him as a robust and diligent young individual who never gave up.
This flu season has claimed approximately 9,400 lives across the US, resulting in 150,000 hospitalizations and affecting 14 million individuals. Notably, the first week of January witnessed the loss of 13 children to the flu, totaling 40 pediatric deaths this season.

Furthermore, recent studies highlight the higher susceptibility of children under 18 to severe flu cases compared to adults over 65. The Centers for Disease Control outlines the sudden onset of flu symptoms, which can include fever, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, body aches, headaches, fatigue, and occasionally, vomiting and diarrhea, particularly in children.
