High Schoolers Surprise Two Classmates With Down Syndrome By Crowning Them Prom King And Queen

What’s the kindest thing that you have ever done for someone today? For these high school students, they have made prom extra special for their classmates with Down Syndrome.

Prom night is one of the things that high school students look forward to the most. This is one of those memorable events of the year when both girls and boys get to wear their best for the evening. And the crowning of the Prom King and Queen is always an anticipated affair for the school body.

Everybody will be waiting for who will be crowned King and Queen. Usually, the most popular one is selected. But for this high school, the students choose their King and Queen with a goal to make prom extra special for these two.

Anna Anderson and Zane Wales both have down syndrome. Like other teens, these two found young love with each other. They had been together since they were in middle school. Prom was a big deal for the students at Jefferson Forest High School, and Zane and Anna were no exception. But they had no idea that this prom would be extra special, something that they never expected to have happened.

Their classmates wanted to make Zane and Anna their prom King and Queen!

Neither Zane nor Anna knew that their schoolmates had a surprise in store for them. Their classmates have prepared for this momentous event that even their teachers knew about the plan. For weeks, the students have been plotting how to put this into action. Even their teachers got involved.

They have a reason for doing this. They wanted Zane and Anna to feel that they are one of them. Even though they are special, they would have the same chance to take part in this most awaited event of the year. They want Zane and Anna to feel at home, that they belong.

Zane and Anna are among the millions of individuals who have to deal with the constant reminder that they are different from the rest of society. There are kids with Down Syndrome who easily get along with others, but others mostly feel out of place.

That’s why the schoolmates of Zane and Anna, want these two to feel accepted and at ease in their company.

Heather Hevener, one of the teachers, said, “They see these kids every day. They walk the same halls with these same kids, and they just feel like they’re part of them, so they wanted to make sure that they also really felt part of them.”

And when it was time to announce who the student body had chosen to be the Prom King and Queen, everyone was excited for Zane and Anna. They can’t wait to finally reveal their ultimate surprise.

The Prom King was announced first. The student who made the announcement said:

“You’re our prom king, Zane!”

Anna was cheering for Zane. Then she heard her name was also called. The announcer said:

“And here comes the prom queen, as chosen by the whole school – Anna!”

Zane and Anna’s excitement was apparent. They are both beaming broadly with happiness at this unexpectedly delightful occurrence. Even after being crowned Prom King and Queen, Zane and Anna still can’t believe this great news.

They were undoubtedly moved by the gesture that their friends and schoolmates have shown them. This became the validation they received from feeling accepted by their peers was clearly meaningful to them.
