Katy Perry ‘Triggered’ When Contestant Sings John Mayer Song

American Idol is typically an entertaining talent show. Here, the judges are able to meet different kinds of contestants. Some are funny while others are borderline rude. Still, the judges make sure that they make the show fun not only for the audience but also for the viewers at home.

However, the moment when judge Katy Perry got “triggered” by a contestant’s song choice definitely became one of the most talked-about topics on social media these days.

The most recent live episode of the show featured a segment called the “Judge’s Song Contest.” This is where each competitor was given a song that they will perform and this was selected by one of the judges.

One of the contestants, Noah Thompson, was given a choice of three songs to sing for his part. One of those songs was written by John Mayer and the other one was written by John Denver. Thompson was initially going to sing the John Denver song, but at the last moment, he decided to go for the John Mayer song – “Heartbreak Warfare.”

Now that would not have been a big deal. But if you have been following celebrity relationships, then you will know that Katy Perry and John Mayer used to have a romantic relationship. The two were on and off for about two years, from 2012 until around 2015 when they officially called it quits.

According to People in 2016, the celebrity couple decided to split up because they were too different. “They’re two very strong-willed people. Despite caring about each other very much and wanting to make it work, they are, at their core, quite different,” the publication was told by a source.

However, Thompson had no idea of this when he confidently chose the John Mayer song. That is why when host Ryan Seacrest asked him who he thought chose the John Mayer song, he said Katy Perry. The audience couldn’t help but giggle, knowing the background. Katy Perry wasn’t quite sure how to react.

She then said: “Noah, I…I feel like you should Wikipedia me.”

The other judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie could not help but laugh. The audience also erupted with laughter at Noahs’ innocence regarding the situation. He was not even sure why everyone found this so funny.

He then said: “So that’s a hard no?”

Perry exclaimed: “I picked John Denver! It’s a great song, it’s all great, but I just can’t talk anymore.”

Everyone continued to find the moment hilarious.

Perry jokingly shouted, “I’m triggered!” as she ducked under the table and threw a bag of chips into the audience.

And when she got back up from under the table and somehow composed herself of this awkward situation, she joked once more, saying, “Who’s going to pay for my extra hour of therapy?”

Once she was able to really compose herself, she gave Thompson props for his performance, which even she had to admit was lovely. Perry said, “Honestly, you sounded great, it’s a great song. He’s a great artist, you’re a great artist.”

John Denver is a really good musician, and so is John Mayer. It was indeed awkward and it was obvious looking at Katy Perrys’ reaction. At least she had a good laugh about it.
