Original pieces of art are impressive, but take a look at how this man has put other artists to shame with his masterpiece!

A Dutchman named Johan Huibers got completely hooked with the story of Noah’s Ark. He became a dad in the early 90s and he would usually read bedtime stories to his children. One of their favorites is about the biggest Biblical tale of the great flood. After reading the story of Noah for a couple of nights, he came up with an idea to build an ark of his own!

It was 1993 when Johan decided to turn this idea into a reality. He would spend his spare time building the boat so huge that it can surely fit two of every animal – just like the real Noah’s Ark!

In 2006, the 21st-century ark was born!

Still, Johan was not happy about the outcome. He had already spent all of his time building this ship but he realized that his new ship was only half the size of Noah’s ship! If that’s what he was aiming for, he sure has a lot of work to do. But he knew that he would not be able to achieve it alone. People started offering help.

A team of amateur carpenters got inspired with what Johan built and they decided to join him. They started to work on the next phase of the ship and this time, it would be something that would closely resemble but rival the ark that Noah built!

It was in 2012 that the boat was finally finished!

They opened it for the public and everyone was in awe. According to Johan, he spent his own money and time on this project. His estimates tell him that the total cost would be almost $1.6 million. Even though he invested time and money on his ark, Johan knew that it was not close to perfect. Johan and his teams are amateurs and people who came to visit the ark can tell architectural errors.

Johan said, “We’re not professional boatmakers. A lot of stuff here is a bit crooked.”

Despite the errors and imperfections, the ark looks amazing to look at and walk through. It’s complete with details like model animals to make visitors think that they are really inside Noah’s ark and the big flood that will sweep all living creatures in this world is just right around the corner.

Johan’s ark is the exact replica of what the real Noah’s ark would have looked like. Johan made sure to follow all of the specifications as it was laid out in the Bible. Even though people found a lot of mistakes, the boat floats!

Johan is planning to sail his ark to places. He wants to visit Israel but because of wildfires, his plans are put on hold for now. And also, safety is his concern. Another thing that keeps the ship from sailing is that the boat has no engine, sails, or any other means to steer it while on water.

For now, his current plan is to use tugboats to steer the ship to its different destinations like Rio de Janeiro, Havana, Long Beach, San Diego, San Francisco, and so much more!
