Mom & Daughter Spend All Their Savings To Buy A Home Only To Have Problems With Squatters Who Refuse To Leave
At some point in your life, you would want to have your own home. Buying one can be very expensive, that’s why Jen Larsen and her mom, Donna Edmonds, ended up using all their savings to buy a house.
When they realized that renting wouldn’t work out for them anymore, they decided buying was in their best interest. Due to the general increase in the cost of living brought by the pandemic, Jen and Donna decided to buy a home instead of continuing to pay rent.
In an interview with Fox 5 Las Vegas, Jen shared, “My mom and I decided to buy a house together about two months ago because both of our rents were going to go up dramatically, about $500 apiece.”
It wasn’t simple for mom and daughter to save up that much money to afford buying the house. That’s why they were happy that finally, they have enough to buy a house they can call their home.
Donna said, “We scrimped and scraped the two of us to get this and we were so excited.”
They had a lot of luck with their approximately 2,700 square-foot home on Leadville Meadows Drive. The peacefulness and quiet of the location are perfect for a family of their size. As an added bonus, the home was far larger than they had expected.
When the time eventually came for them to move in, they were caught off guard because they had not anticipated that it would be challenging for them.
The seller has asked for one more week to finish packing and vacate the property. They will need the money to pay for the relocation of the former owners. Jen felt sorry for them, so she promised to help. Jen made sure they had records of the agreement for their protection. Good thing they did because, in the end, they would run into some major problems.
It’s been seven days, and they still haven’t moved into their new house. The home’s previous owner had already moved out. The trouble was that somebody else moved in during that week. There’s no way these squatters are leaving now for Jen and her mom. The stress brought about by this situation has taken a toll on Donna. She said, “I can’t eat. I can’t sleep. It’s been really, really stressful.”
The closure is scheduled for March 4, as stated in the deed to the property. They were able to produce all the necessary paperwork proving ownership of the property, but they still weren’t able to move in.
FOX5 obtained a copy of the eviction notice to speak to the new occupants. When they arrived, there were lights on the inside of the house. They knocked but nobody came outside to speak to them. However, they did notice a bicycle in the driveway. So they decided to investigate further.
Right as the TV crew was packing up to leave, a blue pickup truck came into the driveway. The driver told a Fox5 reporter that he was only passing through and declined to be filmed. They also noticed a woman who came with the pickup truck.
Fox5 received an email from the woman seen in the truck with the man they interviewed. Her legal lease from the previous owner expires on July 2, therefore she’s authorized to be there. FOX5 asked by email if and when the woman planned to leave but their questions were left unanswered.
