People Say This Is The “Worst National Anthem Performance” Ever And Its Video Goes Viral

We have seen our fair share of the best and worst National Anthem Performances through the years. People have their favorites and least favorites when it comes to these performances. And recently, many people agreed that they have witnessed the ‘worst’ by far.

This was the performance of 23-year-old pop star Conan Gray. He has twenty-one million monthly Spotify listeners but the question is, would be able to sing the Star-Spangled Banner without making any mistakes?

Gray gave a live rendition of the national anthem as part of the Home Run Derby events in Los Angeles’ Dodger Stadium. People were expecting a great performance, but many were disappointed.

The young pop singer is under fire for what people say is the ‘worst’ in American history. Los Angeles baseball fans who had no other choice but to listen to Gray’s “impossibly terrible” version of the national anthem at a recent Home Run Derby have called it “the worst singing of the national anthem ever attempted.”

Hundreds of Twitter and Instagram users immediately took to the platforms to mock and criticize the YouTuber turned popstar.

This Twitter user joked: “…a Congressional Committee that looks into who chose the singer for the National Anthem at the Home Run Derby.”

Another person following the discussion about Conan Gray on Twitter commented: “There are so many great singers in this country, it’s nearly impossible to have that bad of a national anthem.”

This is what this person had to say after watching Gray’s Home Run Derby performance in Los Angeles: “I don’t know who TF Conan Gray is, but that was top 5 worst national anthem renditions I’ve ever heard.”

Another person tweeted: “1.) Who is Conan Gray? 2.) He may very well be the worst national anthem singer of all time. Good lord.”

But who is Conan Gray? And why are people making a huge fuss about his subpar performance?

You see, Gray is a young YouTuber from Texas. His name skyrocketed to internet stardom after people started following his videos on YouTube. To date, his YouTube account has over 4.7 million subscribers and more than a billion views in total of his 266 videos uploaded on the platform.

He has also built a large following on Spotify. He even has millions of monthly listeners that enjoy his music. His second album, “Superache,” was published in June and received rave reviews both from his critics and fans. To top it all off, Gray’s record reached the top ten charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

So it was reasonable why people were expecting a lot from him. It’s a National Anthem and even little children know it by heart. So what could possibly go wrong, right?

It seems like for his performance, the song was probably not a match to his voice or what people are used to hearing from him. That is why most people agree that Gray’s version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” was not his best. Some say it is one of the worst ever. Some even said that his performance was worse than that of Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas when she sang the anthem at an NBA All-Star Game.

Do you think it was nerves that greatly affected his performance? Or maybe because it was sung live? What are your thoughts about his performance?
