Police Officer Shares A Car Safety Feature That More People Should Use
Car safety is one of the most important things that we have to consider when purchasing a car. We never want to put ourselves, or our family in danger while driving around town. Some things may be inevitable, but accidents are preventable. We may not be able to control what other drivers are doing while on the road, but we can definitely control what we do.
Because of car safety issues in the past, car manufacturers are continuing to put more safety features in their vehicles to make their buyers feel safer knowing that you these added protection. However, because of the modern technology and high-tech features, there are times that we don’t know how these things work!
If you don’t know how to use them to your advantage, then they are useless.
Police officers have noticed that many people are not aware of the basic safety feature that comes with any vehicle. This is what they want you to be aware of so you will not only protect yourself behind the wheel but also your passengers who are putting their lives in your hands.
Officer John Perrine from Indiana State Police Department loves his job and he takes it seriously. All he wants is to do the public service. He also noticed that not all of us are aware of this car feature. To spread awareness, he decided to take out his phone and record himself talking about it. He describes how to use this feature, when to use it, and how it can save lives.
He starts off by saying:
“What if I told you there’s a feature on every car that’s standard that’ll not only prevent crashes but also help prevent road rage?”
While his phone camera is recording, he shows everyone where we can find the safety feature. It is easily accessible to anyone who is sitting in the driver’s seat. He also states that this safety feature can save lives and reduce accidents.
This is a stick that juts out from the steering wheel commonly called, “turning signal.”
Sure, everyone knows about this feature – but are we using it properly? Maybe, maybe not. If you are on the road, some drivers fail to signal when they are at stop signs or when changing lanes, especially on a highway. When we do not signal, we put everyone at risk, including ourselves. He also shares that sometimes, people don’t want to put down their coffee or their cell phone and choose to disregard the importance of this life-saving feature.
“It may require that you put down your coffee or cell phone, or whatever you have in your hands so that you can drive safely.”
We must always remember that the law requires every driver to use their turn signals. If you are not aware of this, then you should know that it is proper etiquette to use it too! If you want to prevent accidents or road rage incidents, then use your turn signal properly when changing lanes or when making a turn.
Every day, thousands of people buy a car. If you own one, you need to know everything that you can to keep safe. Using the turn signal is a simple task when driving and we should never take it for granted. It is there for a reason and one of them is to keep us safe while on the road.
