Server Leaves A Heartfelt Note On A Firefighter’s Bill And It Changed Everything

Working at midnight is not fun. It’s the laziest part of the day for most establishments that are open 24/7. But sometimes, you will be surprised to come across situations that you will never forget for the rest of your life.

Liz Woodward was on her midnight shift at the 130 Diner located in Delran, New Jersey when at around 5 AM, she noticed two firefighters who came into the diner to grab something to eat. Asking what they wanted, one of them requested for their ‘biggest’ cup of coffee. It was obvious to her that the firefighters looked exhausted.

She knew that they were probably part of the firefighter team who responded to the nearby fire in a warehouse in North Brunswick. It was one of the biggest that they had in town. She no longer had to ask because they looked like they came from their shift.

It might have been a lazy night for her but that’s not the case for these two firefighters. She knew they had a rough night.

One of the firefighters, Tim Young, later on posted this on Facebook: “After 12 hours fighting the fire and supplying water, he hadn’t eaten so I took him out for breakfast to the route 130 diner in Delran.”

There is no doubt that he surely needed that coffee and Woodward is more than happy to grant his request. However, they didn’t know that she would do more than just serve them coffee.

When they asked for the bill, they were surprised when they saw a note…

It said: “Your breakfast is on me today – Thank you for all that you do; for serving others & for running into the places everyone else runs away from.”

It was such a surprise for the two men. What they didn’t know was that Liz Woodward heard everything. She wanted to take care of their bill to show how grateful she is for the bravery of their service and for always being there when help is needed.

Tim was so touched by the waitress’ kind gesture so he decided to share it on social media. And the next thing they know, his post went viral!

Tim and Paul learned that Liz also needed help. After the kindness that she’d shown them, it was their next mission to help her. The two firefighters also learned that Liz had started a GoFundMe campaign a year before for her father, Steve who suffered a brain aneurysm rupture.

So they decided to help by sharing the page hoping that this would attract more donations for Steve.

Due to his condition, Steve became quadriplegic. And his health made it hard for everyone in his family to transport him, especially when they needed to bring him to his doctor’s appointments. Their cars are not designed for his needs. They needed a custom vehicle, the one with a wheel-chair accessible van.

And when the firefighters’ post became viral, more people donated to Liz’s GoFundMe page. In fact, the news also reached Mobility Ventures LLC, a renowned maker of customized vehicles that Steve and his family needed.

Then something amazing happened. Mobility Ventures LLC donated an MV-1 to Steve!

The GoFundMe money collected will go to Steve’s medical expenses. The original goal was $17,000 but it reached $86,500.

Liz and her family couldn’t believe how her simple act of kindness started this chain of positive events. And for Liz, she just did something to appreciate what these firefighters do and did not expect anything in return.
