Service Dog Approaches And Comforts Stranger At Airport After Noticing That He’s Sad

Dogs are family to their humans. Because they show an overwhelming amount of loyalty and devotion to their human companions, dogs have earned the title of “man’s best friend.” Dogs are also very observant animals. If your dog is able to sense your emotions, they can recognize when their humans are feeling down. And during these times, they are prepared to do whatever it takes to cheer you up.

That’s exactly what most service dogs do. In order to provide assistance to their person with a disability or emotional needs, a service dog of any breed or type is individually trained to do work or complete tasks.

“Cora” is a small corgi. She was rescued from a puppy mill just before her eighth birthday. After spending years in terrible conditions, Cora has not let this deter her from recognizing the good in humans. And in spite of her multiple health challenges, Cora persisted and ended up in a foster home. Madison Palm, her foster mother, was immediately taken with her.

Because Madison loved Cora so much, she decided to adopt her, and the corgi didn’t waste any time falling in love with her new owner too. Madison noticed that Cora is such a loving dog so she thought that it would probably be a good idea to have her trained as a therapy dog.

This turned out to be the best decision she has ever made for her adopted dog. Being a therapy dog allowed Cora to help those in need.

Madison shared, “Cora’s personality is so amazing; she is a lover. She is always right next to me and always keeps a close eye if she’s not. If I’m not available she’ll pick the next closest lap to sit on and nudge your hand unless you are petting her at all times. She is SO sweet and that is usually the first thing people say about her. Her gentle and kind nature never goes unnoticed.”

When Cora and Madison were in an airport, they came across a man who was sitting by himself and appeared to be in a state of deep depression. What Madison did not expect was what Cora would do next. The dogs’ actions gained widespread attention.

Madison said, “She was taking a snooze so I let go of her leash briefly while I relaxed and had a snack; that is when she woke up and snuck over to him. Before I could even call her she was already at his feet being loved on.”

At first, Madison was concerned that Cora was making the man uncomfortable, so she went to check on them. When she got there, the man assured her that the dog was in no way making him uncomfortable, but in fact, doing the opposite.

Madison further shared, “I asked him if she was bothering him and with a somber face and watery eyes he said, ‘No, no; I lost my dog last night.’ He scratched behind her ears, patted her on the back and was whispering how cute she was. He took out his phone to snap a photo and she sat directly in front of him facing him and stayed perfectly still for it.”

Dogs are amazing creatures. The gentleness and love that Cora gives is a reminder of how powerful the love of a dog can be.
