Study States All Humans Descended From A Single Couple

How the human race started and grew has always been a huge debate. The Story of Creation from the Bible teaches us that we all came from Adam and Eve. But for decades, scientists have always believed in one theory of evolution. They never deterred even though plenty of evidence shows that the theory from the Bible is true.

However, most recently, a new study conducted by experts is causing a stir within the science community.

Instead of evolution, the new study claims that all humans are the descendants of two human beings, just like how it is described in the Bible. So, are scientists changing their opinions now that new research shows that this widely accepted theory of evolution may be completely wrong?

For sure you have already seen news regarding this new study on social media. This study was conducted by two researchers – Mark Stoeckle and David Thaler, from the University of Basel in Switzerland. They helped in a study that found that 90% of the animals alive, including humans, all came from a pair of parents 250,000 years ago. The scientists say that their study also shows that a catastrophic event almost wiped out the entire human race about 100,000 years ago.

These claims originate from a scientific paper titled: “Why should mitochondria define species?” that was published in May in an Italian journal, ‘Human Evolution.’

It did not take long for the science media site, Phys.org, to publish a short summary of this news. Still, this extended press release didn’t generate that much reaction inside nor outside of the scientific community.

However, a follow-up article was published on the same website. It was oversimplified and also misportrayed the conclusions of the paper: “The study’s most startling result, perhaps, is that nine out of 10 species on Earth today, including humans, came into being 100,000 to 200,000 years ago.”

This though triggered mixed reactions, especially amongst the critics of evolution.

In order to gather the information needed for the study, the scientists did genetic studies on five million animals from a variety of species, including humans. The lead author, Dr. Mark Stoeckle, is a pioneer in the “DNA barcoding” initiative where small pieces of DNA can be sequenced from many different species. And the genetic variation observed could be used as a rapid identification method for the millions of species on earth.

This study concluded that humans and animals all came from a single pair most probably after the catastrophic event that occurred after the ice age.

According to Thaler, he admits that he was shocked by the findings. In fact, he fought against it but that’s what the results show. Stoeckle also says that even though people these days are focusing more on how different we all are, he believes that we need to spend more time focusing on how much similar humans are to the creatures that belong to the animal kingdom.

Many say that Stoeckel and Thaler have relied on analyses of a single gene and came to these conclusions. So are the general patterns they have observed accurate? Only time will tell.

What are your thoughts about this discovery? Do you think that there is a possibility for this to be true?
