Suzanne Somers’ Official Cause of Death Revealed Nearly 2 Weeks After Actress Dies at 76

The cause of death for Suzanne Somers, best known for her role in “Three’s Company”, has been disclosed. On Sunday, Oct. 15 at 5:30 a.m., Somers passed away due to complications from her breast cancer, which had metastasized to her brain, as indicated by a death certificate that The Blast accessed. This diagnosis was further confirmed with a biopsy. No autopsy was undertaken, but the certificate also mentioned other contributory conditions such as hypertension and hydrocephalus. The latter condition, according to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, results from an accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain’s cavities, leading to harmful pressures on the brain’s tissues. Records show Somers had been living with hydrocephalus for over a year.

Shortly after her passing, Somers was laid to rest at the Desert Memorial Park in Cathedral City, with the ceremony organized by a Palm Springs funeral home, as reported by The Blast referencing the death certificate. PEOPLE magazine has attempted to verify the information with Riverside County officials.

Earlier in the month, R. Couri Hay, the publicist for Somers, confirmed her passing at age 76 to PEOPLE. A statement from Somers’ family mentioned that she had been living with an aggressive breast cancer for over two decades. The family had planned to celebrate her 77th birthday on October 16th but instead commemorated her remarkable life.

Throughout her life, Somers had been candid about her health challenges, starting with her 2000 breast cancer diagnosis. She shared her journey with PEOPLE in 2001, expressing the emotional toll of acknowledging her condition. By 2007, she had reported being cancer-free after undergoing radiation, a lumpectomy, and exploring alternative therapies. Yet, a post on her Instagram in July 2023 revealed the recurrence of her breast cancer.

In her post, she uploaded a picture with her husband, Alan Hamel, aged 87, discussing her ongoing battle with the disease. She emphasized her determination and resilience in the face of the recurring ailment.

In the wake of her death, her publicist presented PEOPLE with a heartfelt poem penned by Hamel for his wife, handed to her just a day before her demise. The poem passionately described their love, emphasizing their deep bond throughout their 55 years together, of which they were married for 46. The poem profoundly stated their inseparability, highlighting their close relationship and undying love for each other.
