Teen Allegedly Gets Kicked Out Of Prom For Wearing A Suit. School Explains Why

People of all ages should have the freedom to express themselves. And that includes their freedom to wear anything that makes them comfortable, regardless of gender. If a boy wants to wear a dress, skirt, or heels, then they should have the freedom to do so. And that goes for the girls. If they want to wear a suit, then that should not be a problem.

But if you can remember Aniya Wolf, she was a high school student who previously went viral because she was kicked out from her own school’s prom because she wore a suit to the event, instead of a dress.

And now, she happily attends prom from a different school wearing the outfit of her choice – a suit!

Aniya Wolf went to her school dance at Bishop McDevitt High School, a Catholic school in Harrisburg, wearing a suit with a matching boutonniere. However, she was forced to leave right after reaching the entryway to the prom because of how she was dressed for the occasion. The entire incident was so intense that time that it even came to a point where a school official threatened to call the cops if she won’t leave. She did leave but the prom but she was obviously not happy with how it all went.

It all seemed to be going well for Wolf after she and her date got a new prom invite from the principal of William Penn Senior High School in York. She was told that ‘We do embrace all.’

So when Wolf and her date arrived at the event, she was proudly wearing her navy-blue suit and matching bowtie. And of course, her date wore a glamorous shimmer aqua blue gown with a strapless top. And nobody complained. The two were wholeheartedly accepted and they truly enjoyed the event.

During an interview with ABC 27, Wolf said that right after they were thrown away from her first prom, she now exclusively wears pants and shirts at Bishop McDevitt High School for three years now. She shared, “I’ve just always been like this, ever since I was little. I was always more masculine. You wouldn’t catch me playing with any Barbie dolls, I’ll tell you that right now.”

And before the traumatic incident happened at her previous school, the staff allegedly informed the students of the prom’s dress code three months prior. However, it did not specifically say anything about girls not wearing suits. If this was explicitly restricted, there is no doubt that there is no problem with her following these rules.

Wolf shares that she is a ‘practicing Catholic’ all through her life. And she ‘lives out God’s teachings and ‘loves her teachers.’ However, she believes that what happened to her and how the situation was handled was inappropriate. She said, “I’m sorry for all those who feel like they have been victims of hatred throughout this incident but the truth needs to be heard.”

May Wolf’s story open the hearts and minds of those who are still unaccepting of the modern changes in this day and age. Though we are respectful of the beliefs of others, hopefully, they too would be open to accepting who we truly are, despite our differences.
