Two High School Students Spend 48 Hours In Jail For Sagging Pants

Most schools these days take their dress codes seriously. They make sure that every student follows the rules.

And one of them is the Bolivar Central High School. This high school is very strict when it comes to their dress code regulations. And when two of their high school students did not follow their rules, they called the authorities to arrest them. They take indecent exposure seriously.

But how indecent can a high school student be for the school authority to have someone arrested over a dress infraction?

According to the reports of News 5, they made several attempts to get in touch with the school administration with regards to the incarceration of their students. The news outlet also made calls to Jeff Barnes, the principal of the school in question as well as General Sessions Judge Boyette Denton. However, no phone calls have been returned to give their side of the story or opinions regarding this matter.

The Bolivar Central High School is located in Tennessee. The state law does not dictate the minor dress infractions like saggy pants as indecent exposure. The school dress code should be imposed. And in the case of this student, Antonio Ammons, as well as four others, some action should be taken. The campus police enforced their rules and took it to the next level when they decided to arrest Ammons and another student for wearing excessively saggy pants. Aside from them, two other students were also reprimanded because of their dress code violations.

According to the school resource officers, these dress code violations have already happened multiple times. And the student in question was already warned to comply with the dress code guidelines. The school already gave Ammons and the other students to follow the dress code guidelines, but they chose not to.

In fact, Antonio Ammons posted a picture on social media that shows what he was wearing at the time of his arrest. In the picture, Ammons can be seen wearing pants that were covering his gym shorts and underwear. His pants however were sagging drastically. His gym shorts and underwear were slightly exposed. To keep his pants from falling down, he accessorized it with a belt that was fastened in a way that will keep the pants from being pulled up like how one should wear them. If he did a little bit more adjustment with his pants and belt, this issue could have been avoided.

Many parents and other students also agreed that the issue with sagging pants has been an increasing problem among the student body. However, they feel that the rest was a bit extreme. They don’t think that wearing saggy pants should equate to committing a serious crime that will cost you jail time and some fine.

One parent named Crystal Wing admitted that jail time was excessive for a dress code violation. Yes, she agrees that something was needed to be done but detaining a student is definitely not a solution to this issue. Another student named Cheyenne Lindsey also agreed that the punishment given to Ammons and the other students was harsh.

Because of this, Ammons has over $250 in court fees. He also had to spend more than 48 hours locked up in his jail cell at Hardeman County Criminal Justice Complex with the other inmates.
