After Two Years Of Fighting Leukemia, Hospital Staff Sings A Special Song To This Little Boy
Cancer. That’s one word that many people try to avoid talking about because that’s something that nobody would ever want to experience. The battle of cancer patients is tough and it brings their lives to a complete 360 turn. Adults have a hard time dealing with this disease, how much more when it’s the young, innocent children?
When a kid is diagnosed with cancer, it is scary for the parents. That is why there are a number of organizations and groups that have been established to provide patients and their families with support at every stage of the treatment process, with some of the institutions that grant requests.
Two pediatric nurses from California decided to launch the nonprofit organization “Little Wishes” because they wanted to help severely ill children in some way. Unlike the other organizations that grant patients their big dreams, Little Wishes grants children with smaller but more memorable requests.
Their Facebook page explains:
“Little Wishes brings love, light, and happiness to children being treated at partnering hospitals across the United States… What makes the Little Wishes™ program unique (and why they keep the wishes little) is that a qualified child may make another request 14 days after receiving their first little wish, and every 14 days thereafter… These wishes provide a welcome distraction, brighten long days, and are a tangible expression of community compassion, love, and support.”
One of its most deserving recipients is Henry. He was diagnosed with leukemia when he was just 3 years old. Then in June 2020, he received his first little wish while he was undergoing chemotherapy.
On their Facebook page, Little Wishes posted: “Three-year-old Henry is a fan of the Mario Brothers. Thanks to Little Wishes, he now runs into the hospital for chemo treatments knowing his wishes are waiting for him. He says the Little Wishes wand gives him ‘star power’ to become Mario as he zooms around the room.”
Going through chemotherapy sessions is not easy for a child. It was a time of pain and uncertainty not only for the little one but for his hopeful family as well. But the little wishes granted by his loved ones certainly brightened his days.
The best gift he got was the one in May when Henry and his family finally got to celebrate his return to health!
After his 42 rounds of chemo, 23 blood transfusions, and a total of 865 days fighting this cancer battle, Henry got to celebrate being cancer-free. And to make this day extra special, the chemo team sang him a celebratory song.
Then he rang the bell…
For a time, it was known as the “Chemo Bell.” The end of chemotherapy treatment is marked by the sound of the chime bell. Chemotherapy patients and the staff have a special bond with this tradition. At every end of treatment, these bells are rung by patients at hospitals around the world.
Little Wishes posted: “We are so happy for you henRY and so proud to be by your side throughout your treatment. Check out henRY’s viral vid It will make your day!”
The video shows the staff singing the song “No more chemo for you” to the tune of “Happy Birthday.”
Henry’s mother can be seen crying while the group sings it. The wonderful celebration is brought to a close with the release of golden confetti, rounds of cheering, and most importantly, the ringing of a bell.
