Unborn Twin Found Growing Inside 2-Year-Old’s Brain

Doctors in China have made a shocking discovery after a one-year-old girl was found to have an unborn twin growing inside her brain.

The child was brought to the hospital by her parents after they noticed her head had been growing abnormally for several months. After conducting a CT scan, doctors found a mass inside the girl’s skull and suspected it was a type of tumor.

However, upon further examination, the doctors were stunned to discover that the mass was in fact an undeveloped fetus, complete with bones, hair, and other features.

The condition, known as “fetus in fetu,” is incredibly rare and occurs in just one in every 500,000 live births. It happens when a fertilized egg divides into two embryos, but one of them fails to fully develop and instead becomes absorbed by the other.

In this case, the girl’s twin had been absorbed by her during fetal development, but had continued to grow inside her skull. The mass measured 3.5 cm by 4.3 cm and weighed 10 grams.

The doctors decided to perform surgery to remove the mass, which they said was a complicated and risky procedure. They successfully removed the mass and found that it contained bones, hair, and other features, as well as a partially formed skull and brain tissue.

The girl is said to be recovering well after the surgery, but will require further monitoring to ensure that there are no long-term complications. Doctors have expressed optimism that the child will make a full recovery.

The case has generated international attention, with many expressing shock and disbelief at the rare condition. Fetus in fetu is so rare that there have been fewer than 200 reported cases in medical literature.

Dr. Michael Cusimano, a neurosurgeon at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, told CTV News that the case was “truly amazing.”

“Every once in a while you hear of these things and it’s quite remarkable,” he said. “It’s not something that we see commonly, and it’s something that’s quite fascinating to read about.”

The case highlights the importance of regular checkups and monitoring during pregnancy, as well as the need for prompt medical attention if any abnormalities are detected in a child’s development.

As for the girl and her family, they are said to be relieved and grateful that the mass was successfully removed, and are looking forward to a healthy and happy future.
