Watch What Happens When A Cargo Ship Slips Off Of The Dock
It was on the 31st of October, 2015 when the first cargo ship which hit the open water for the first time runs only on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
This was considered as a huge advancement in the boating industry. The launch of this ship was attended by photographers. An aerial video camera also captured this once in a lifetime moment when the ship finally went from land to sea.
This amazing ship was built and docked in the Netherlands. It was known around the shipyard Nb. 423. It was then handed over to the new owners, JT Cement just a couple of weeks leading up to Christmas. Since then, this cargo ship as known as “The M.V. Greenland” or “The Greenland.” This was designed specifically to be a cement cargo ship.
The ship had to go through a couple of sea trials and tests as well as its well-documented departure from Delfzijl, Netherlands. Its first commercial voyage was heading to Rostock, Germany and this is where it received its first cement cargo.
The Greenland is the first of its kind which is why it has a very unique design. Its cement cargo system is fully automated which includes the loading and unloading systems. To make this possible, it uses compressed air to move the cement through the fully enclosed pipes which make the loading and unloading of cement dust-free. This is definitely a groundbreaking engineering design.
Now, The Greenland is ready for its very first public appearance. However, nobody expected this HUGE splash!
For those who did not witness this big reveal, good thing it was captured on an aerial video. The ship sailing for the very first time was seen not only by those who were present but also by those who have seen the video. Nobody expected that as soon as it slides off the dock, this would happen.
On the video, we can see that a smaller boat is attached to The Greenland and is already in the water. The smaller boat will ease this ship forward to leave its dock. It starts off slowly and you can barely see the ship moving. Everyone was wondering how this much smaller boat would be able to pull The Greenland into the water.
A few moments later, The Greenland started to move!
Everyone was holding their breath as they watch The Greenland tilt into the water in a very dangerous angle. It almost looked like it would flop into the water on its side. But as the engineers expected, the ship quickly regains its balance.
The ship was able to go upright in the water but the ripple effect of the water for its big entrance was too grand. Huge, frothy waves appear from the sides of the ship. One of the waves, however, is not slowing down.
As seen on the video, on the side where there’s a huge wave is where a stretch of highway is while on the other is a field on the other side of the road. There is a roadblock to prevent the cars from getting in the way and there were around 30 people who are taking pictures along the road.
If you want to witness a spectacular reveal, watch how The Greenland did its own entrance!
