After Wife’s Cancer Diagnosis, Jim Breuer Shares Message About God
Jim Breuer used his show, “The Breuniverse Podcast,” to talk about his wife, her battle with cancer, and how they all received the sad news. During the July 8 episode, Breuer recalled the moment that his wife was diagnosed with stage four cancer.
Since then, their lives have been everything but normal over the last five years. But he insisted that he had never faltered in his belief in God, despite their many hardships.
Talking about the moment they learned about her wife’s condition, Breuer recalled saying, “The doctor says, ‘Nothing we can do. It’s everywhere.’” At that moment, he said that it seems like everything changed for him.
He shared, “Your life as you know it, changes like that. Your whole life flashes.”
Breuer remembered one thing about what his friend said during this trying time. He can still remember this friend telling him: “I know you’re spiritual and you believe in God, and your wife is deep into the word of Jesus, and born-again, she found her faith many years ago.”
Then the friend asked: “How does that affect that now? Are you mad? Are you mad at God? Does that screw up your faith?”
Breuer said he did not hold back with his answer…
He shared, “I said to be dead honest with you, not at all. If anything, I’m not mad at what I will not have. I’m not mad at what’s being taken away. I’m not mad about what I’m not gonna have anymore, but I am so damn blessed for what I had, and what I still have.”
That was surely a powerful testament of faith. His friend was speechless and only responded with a simple, “Woah.”
It might be difficult, but how Breuer responded and dealt with his life struggles should be an inspiration to all of us. The temptation to blame God for the problems that we face comes easy. And when tragedy strikes, know that you have a choice about how you respond. And Breuer chooses to see everything on a more positive note. He does not focus on the bad things that have been happening, but on all the blessings that he’s received in life.
Breuer said, “You can either turn your back and be mad or you can look at it as, ‘Wow! I didn’t realize how beautiful life is and was when it’s right in front of you.’ Start looking at the beauty right in front of you with yourself. I’ll never be mad at God. I cannot believe the beauty that surrounds me, I can’t believe the beauty that is given to me.”
At the end of the podcast, Breuer said that his wife has lived with terminal cancer for the last five years.
He said, “So anyone out there that’s dealt the card of ‘your days are numbered,’ do yourself a favor – don’t give up, don’t give up.”
Even if God decides to take Breuer’s wife to be with him in paradise, he understands that their story is far from over. Rather than ending her earthly existence, she will begin her eternal life in a place free of all suffering and pain. That’s what Breuer and his wife continue to believe and draw their strength from during these trying times.
